On 23-08-2015 Sunday morning, residents of Bharat Nagar in Bandra (E) held a protest against local government agencies for neglecting the Bharat Nagar Road that joins Bandra East to BKC (Bandra-Kurla Complex).

The protest was organised by Red Boys Foundation a local NGO from Bharat Nagar. The rally that started at Walmiki Nagar ended at Tata Blocks and local residents participated actively in it.

Residents say that while they have written several complaint letters about the condition of the road, no action has followed.

Brihanmumbai Muncipal Corporation (BMC) has refused to repair the road saying that the land is owned by MHADA (Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority). MHADA on the other hand directed the residents to approach the collector’s office.

“The condition of the roads is only getting worse. No authority is taking responsibility for it. We are holding the protest to get the attention of the authorities, hoping that repair work is carried out,” said Zakir khan,28,Founder Red Boys & Shahnawaz Shaikh, 27, Co-Founder of the Red Boys Foundation.
Mohammad Bakash, 75, residents of the area, said, “We have been suffering due to the bad condition of the road. Fake promises are made during the elections but the state of the road has remained the same.”
Local corporator Ilyas Bashir Shaikh, said, “I raised this issue with the BMC officials several times but they refused to grant me the fund needed to repair the road saying that the land does not belong to the civic body. For one year now we have been asking MHADA to carry out repair work but it has all been in vain.”
